Living in the Nirvana
It's said that dogs are like their owners.
I wonder if that's true.
If anything, isn't it rather that the dog owning people are like their dogs ?
No, even more than that, when those people get a dog, they may tend to choose a dog with a character alike their own.
An active guy likes to take a walk with an active dog, people who tend to shut themselves away get a pet dog. Belligerent people are fascinated by fighting dogs, and fashionable women seem to want good-looking dogs, indeed.
Anyway, in the end people who have a dog become more and more like their dog.
For instance, a guy who has a dog that likes rain, will come to like rain before he's even realizing it.
While looking out of the window saying: “Oh, it looks like it'll be raining.” he starts thinking about going out to take a walk under the umbrella. “Woof”, the dog is barking. The guy answers “I see, I see.” I don't understand what he means with “I see”, but perhaps the guy owning the dog came to understand the it's language.
Not only that, but he also observes the outside world from the perspective of a dog, and acquires the habit of thinking as if he's become a dog himself.
The same goes for cats. The cat owning people, while living with it 365 days a year, become cat-like little by little as well. When the cat lets out a “meow”, he answers “I know, I know”. For others “I know” won't be understandable either, but he understands.
In other words, keeping a living creature is having another aspect within oneself, different from one's own.

I was amused reading this in a Japanese book for reading comprehension (it's full of little short essay like texts, I may translate more if I like), and it got me thinking. I don't own a dog nor a cat but little gerbils, and I thought about in what way I might be like them or how much we are alike in characteristics exactly. Well and then when you think of people you know, who own dogs or cats or other pets....I find it amusing to think about them after reading this.

*waves* I'm back ... I think it's true. But it really seems that it's mostly the fact when it comes to dogs. Don't know why but I can totally see that at the people I know who has dogs.
When I think about my cats I can't say one of them is really like me but I don't know, perhaps you can't see it yourself and every one would see that I'm totally like one of them. I don't know. I can't also say that one of the cats is like Alex.

Hmm, I think I stick to the dog-theory then.

*waves* welcome back!! Just saw your entry and I'm glad Denmark was such a good time for you!!

Yeah, I think with dogs it's the most obvious...but I also agree with you that pet owners might not see it themselves. I think that's why he wrote the line about the guy coming to like rain before even realizing it. And maybe sometimes there are just very few character traits that seem alike. For example some pets don't make a big fuss when they are being taken to the vet, but some turn into little monsters, and so some people are eually afraid of doctors, while other's are not (that much). Maybe it's the things we don#t really think about, but that are just natural to us, and thus.

Or maybe it's really just dogs *lol*

I like this mini essay :D
I started thinking about a friends that owns a dog too...
and it's right, after some time, she already started talking to her tag "yes aida, it's ok, I know." xD

gerbils are wüstenrennmäuse, oder?
wie kommt man darauf, wüstenrennmäuse als haustier zu haben?
nachdem ich noch nie ein haustier hatte, interessiert mich das ^_^;;

yes...or just rennmäuse...and they are actually closer related to hamsters than to real mice and are also called "Krieger mit Krallen". Since my name derives from the god of war "mars" there is a similarity, haha. Well that's not the reson I have them though. No it was in 2003 when me and Silvio were strolling through the pet shop in the mall, just for fun, and I came across the mice and hamsters and then..there was a blondish gerbyl who was totally reacting to me, like when i put my finger on the glass (not knocking, just putting it there) it came running towards that spot putting his little claws against that spot...I did that about 10 times and knew "I have to have it". And we got him and a greyish one and they were called howard & stuart, and usually they have a lifespan of 3 years, but those two lived 5 years (cause I gave them a good home and many sun flower seeds..they loooooove sun flower seeds). Since then we always had gerbils around. and since it was always female ones, we had to get female one's when there was only one left, and sometimes you get a pregnant one (cause in pet shops they keep them mixed) and I think I have one right now (we got 2 new ones last week, and the white one's belly is like a little ball and hard..different from the other's where it's soft).

anyways...that's why I got into them...pure "spur of the moment" thing, but I came to like them because they don't smell like guinea pigs or bunnies or hamsters, they don't smell at all, and are very clean, and you can keep them alone up to 14 days even, provided enough food adn water is there...works perfect for vacations, works perfect for me :D

oh and when they cuddle..they look just really super cute.lovely

yeah, the book has lots of such mini essays, which is fun, cause studying + enjoying = fun :D

yeah, I caught myself talking to my gerbils a few times by now, but they always look at me with their dark button-like eyes, as if totally listening to me xD
Also I'm sure they don't understand WHAT I say, but they seem to recognize my voice.

But I'm still trying to figure out in what way I might have become like them or something. Well they love to eat, haha..one thing in common right there.
Is your friend(s) in some way like the character of their dog?

there is a gerbil tags in my tag list, and if you click it you'll see some pics on my gerbils, except for the very recent one's cause I havn't taken any pics yet, it was difficult to get them accustomed to each other (the most difficult it has ever been actually) and they had lots of stress but are okay now, just some wounds that need a bit of healing, but then I'll probably take pics and post them :)
